Stomp

The high energy percussive urban symphony that defies everything you thought you knew about musical instruments and performance, Stomp, is coming to the Johnny Mercer Theatre on 12 May 2024!

What do you get when you blend energizing beats, inventive and invigorating dance, mind-blowingly creative music, and an astonishing physical theatre approach? A global phenomenon, of course!

There is nothing like Stomp – everything has the potential to become music, and that alone is a beautiful thing to behold. The cast is part drum line, part step team, and part ensemble of city buskers, and with its amazing music created on unconventional household and urban items, visual comedy, intense and energetic movement, and the different and compelling personalities of the cast, this show is literally the beating heart of all things theatre.

Don’t miss a beat this season - get your tickets right now from only $54. Stomp on down to the Johnny Mercer Theatre and enjoy the percussive party that took the world beat by beat!

What do radiator hoses, shopping carts, plastic bags, kitchen sinks, suitcases, matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hammer handles, and inner tubes have in common?

The potential to become music, even the scratching of fingernails on matchboxes, and basketballs being passed back and forth with a thud.

Nobody can turn ordinary household items and urban rubbish into such a beautiful noise as Stomp can in their electrifying, one-of-a-kind performance. There is no traditional narrative, yet there is wordless communication and humor through precision choreography and drums – a true celebration of the everyday. It is exhilarating, ferocious, intense, deadpan, awe-inspiring, and sarcastic.

Stomp is the brainchild of creators and directors Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, who met as street performers. “We concentrated on the rhythmic elements,” McNicholas said, “but I think we remained aware of the inherent absurdity of the concept of using everyday objects as instruments, so the humor was there from the start.” This unique journey through sound premiered in 1991 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, ran for a solid 29 years on Broadway, and undertook various world tours. Stomp has also received multiple awards, such as Best Choreography in a West-End show, as well as an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award for the Most Unique Theatre Experience.

Stomp is now finally coming to Savannah, Georgia – the one off-Broadway show the whole family must see. There is never a dull moment - children will be bubbling with excitement and delight, while adults will be clapping their hands and stomping their feet, carried by the pulse of drums and the call-and-response cues. Audiences can expect to be wowed by the extraordinarily athleticism of the dancers and musicians, experience rhythmic enlightenment, and just have a mind-blowingly amazing time altogether!

Some of the greatest Broadway productions have graced the large proscenium stage of the gorgeous 2,566-seater Johnny Mercer Theatre. Seating is spread across the main orchestra level and balcony levels, ensuring clear sight lines for all stomping audience members, so no beat will be missed.

The Stomp touring cast comprises Jude Caminos, Madeline Jafari, Micah Cowter, Zahna Johnson, Jose Filgueira, Jasmine Joyner, John Gavin, Cary Lamb Jr., Declan Hayden, Sean Perham, Ivan Salazar, and Cade Slattery – and they exist at a different frequency than other musicians.

Don't miss the hottest beat of the season!
